Opinion: Tackling climate crisis requires reshaping food system

In this opinion piece in the Guardian newspaper, Jess Fanzo and Mario Herrero argue that food producers, consumers and governments all need to make changes to help reduce the climate impact of the food system. 

Specifically, Fanzo and Herrero recommend that producers embrace approaches that reduce the environmental impacts of food production, particularly in the case of livestock production, such as by using land that isn’t suitable for crop production to reduce competition between food production and feed production.

Consumers, they argue, should consider moving to a flexitarian diet with low amounts of high-quality meat and dairy, e.g. by only eating animal products in the evening, or by having meatless days throughout the week.
