The investment case for solutions to childhood obesity

This investor briefing from UK responsible investment charity ShareAction introduces the topic of childhood obesity and sets out the opportunities and risks it poses to investment portfolios.

The briefing points out that many governments are introducing regulations in response to the obesity crisis, such as sugar taxes, marketing restrictions and (voluntary) calorie and sugar reduction goals for food and drink manufacturers. Meanwhile, consumer awareness of health issues is growing and affecting food purchasing patterns.

The briefing argues that investments in companies that do not adapt to these trends could pose a risk to investment portfolios. It offers a list of some of the major food and beverage manufacturers and UK retailers most exposed to the opportunities and risks posed by these regulatory and market trends, as well as suggesting next steps for these companies.
