The initial report by the European Community under the Kyoto Protocol establishes the assigned amount of emissions permitted for Europe under the Kyoto Protocol for the period 2008-2012. It also contains an inventory of EU emissions in aggregate, on an individual country basis and by industry sector. This report contains the Annual European Community greenhouse gas inventory 1990-2004 and inventory report 2006 (Technical report No 6/2006), which is attached.

The Danish Øresund Food Network and Øresund Environment Academy have recently published a report entitled: Climate Change and the food industry– Climate labelling for food products: Potential and limitations The report seeks to: Present the concept of climate labelling for food and its various forms; Provide an overview of existing examples of implementation of climate labelling for food as a way of informing consumers about climate impacts of food products;

The Stern Review examines the financial, human and other costs of failing to tackle climate change and concludes that this could amount to trillions of pounds, equivalent to shrinking the global economy by a fifth by 2050.

The EU has published a series of energy scenarios exploring future energy use and CO2 emissions to 2050 - World Energy Technology Outlook - 2050. According to the reference scenario, world energy use is predicted to more than double, as will global CO2 emissions.
