Key finding 1: With committed research and policy efforts, a large amount of carbon could be stored or greenhouse gases abated in Australia's rural lands and this could significantly offset our emissions over the next 40 years. Read Resource Agriculture and climate change: An agenda for negotiation in Copenhagen IFPRI (the International Food Policy Research Institute) have published a very useful series of briefing documents on what they think needs to form part of any Copenhagen deal with respect to agricultural mitigation and adaptation. Their basic argument is that agriculture is both part of the problem and of the solution, and the briefing documents look both at the technological and institutional challenges that need to be overcome.
