Publisher’s Summary
Over a year, eight food justice leaders—from Nepal, Palestine, Ghana, Mexico, Canada, China & the USA, Peru, and Myanmar—came together in deep dialogue to unpack what food justice means to them. These storytelling circles have been captured and shared in our new publication—Rooted in Justice: Global Voices on Food, Power, and Liberation.
Together, they are a powerful call to action for upholding food sovereignty in the face of the ecological and climate crisis, corporate consolidation of food systems, and the enduring impacts of colonization.
Today, one in three people globally face hunger and food insecurity. Small-scale farmers, traditional fishers, Indigenous Peoples, and local communities are fighting to reclaim or preserve their access to the Commons—on land and water—and to secure their livelihoods in the face of mounting challenges. These communities are also leading with solutions—protecting biodiversity, nurturing cultural traditions, and building resilient futures.
Rooted in Justice is an invitation: for philanthropy, policymakers, and allies to stand in solidarity, shift power, and help create food systems grounded in equity, dignity, and sovereignty.
