Food systems performance evaluated against targets and benchmarks reveals urgent gaps and a path to 2050
This study show that current progress is insufficient to meet 2030 targets and benchmarks at global level on food systems transformation, building on the Food Systems Countdown Initiative framework. Achieving most targets and benchmarks by 2050 is possible if countries correct course and accelerate progress, but certain indicators will require considerable investment and intervention.

This analysis finds that global agricultural production for food and industrial inputs has increasingly shifted to the global South, global food-system income is increasingly captured by post-farm activities in the global North, and a substantial share of food-system income is captured in low-tax jurisdictions with low agricultural production.
