Addressing gender inequalities for more sustainable food systems
This literature review explores the extent to which gender inequalities are considered in climate change policies, investments, and interventions related to food systems. Climate change has differential impacts on men and women. Whilst the findings suggest a growing body of literature related to potential interventions, more work is required to fully assess the trade offs and barriers of actions aimed at improving gender differentiated climate outcomes. There is also a considerable lack of research on the intersection of gender, climate change and food systems, with most previous research limited to looking at the role of gender in agricultural production.

Funding, metrics, geographies and gaps of animal-based beef
This article investigates the current state of nutrition and sustainability of plant-based and animal-sourced products, mainly beef. It reflects upon the different metrics used in research and how they impact research results, narratives and policies. From the literature they reviewed, the authors found there to be a consensus that plant-based beef generates fewer greenhouse gas emissions than conventionally reared beef. They found it is more difficult to make nutritional comparisons due to the variability in plant-based beef products. Comparisons mainly focus on nutritional content, water use, land use and greenhouse gas emissions, but exclude social and economic sustainability. The authors highlight the impact of funding sources on the type of metrics chosen and call for more independent analysis focusing on a wider range of metrics.

Environmental and food systems impacts of war in Gaza
Several media outlets have reported on the substantial environmental impacts caused by the on-going conflict in Gaza including water and soil contamination, the health issues associated with sewage management problems and the greenhouse gas emissions associated with Israel’s military action in Gaza. These environmental impacts have implications for the short-term food production potential in the region and for the long term food security of Palestinians in Gaza.

Prisoner's labour in the US linked to hundreds of popular food brands
The Associated Press has recently reported on links between US prison force labour and major food brands such as Coca-Cola and Frosted Flakes, which are on the shelves of retailers such as Aldi, Target, and Whole Foods. The AP cites that Cargill, Bunge, Louis Dreyfus, Archer Daniels Midland and Consolidated Grain have all purchased millions of dollars worth of soy, corn, and wheat harvested by prisoners. This also directly competes with sales for local farmers.
