Reuters reports that Indonesia's annual oil palm expansion may halve to 50,000 hectares from 2009 levels once a $1 billion climate change deal with Norway comes into effect next year. The government has promised land swaps for cancelling some forest concessions.

UNEP’s International Panel for Sustainable Resource Management has published a new report, "Towards sustainable production and use of resources: Assessing the environmental impacts of consumption and production: Priority Products and Materials". The report looks at the impacts of different economic activities on the environment and its key findings are as follows: Agriculture and food consumption are identified as one of the most important drivers of environmental pressures, especially habitat change, climate change, water use and toxic emissions.

A paper published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences identifies three steps that major greenhouse gas emitting countries should take so that global temperature rise does not exceed a rise of 2⁰C.
