A new Sustainable Livestock Bill has been presented (on 23rd March 2010) to Parliament by Peter Ainsworth MP and backed by a group of cross-party MPs representing 40% of all MPs.The Bill was developed by Friends of the Earth. The overall aim of the Bill is to "Require the Secretary of State to prepare and implement a strategy to improve the sustainability of livestock farming and the sustainability of the consumption of livestock produce; and for connected purposes." The Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases - launched at the Copenhagen climate summit in December - held its first meeting in Wellington, New Zealand, in April 2010, with 28 of the 29 member states in attendance.

The Beverage Industry Environmental Roundtable (BIER), a coalition of beverage industry companies and supporting partners, has launched its Beverage Industry Sector Guidance for Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reporting (Sector Guidance), Version 2.0.

The six major energy-using countries of East Asia could stabilize their greenhouse gas emissions by 2025 without compromising growth, a new World Bank report has found. The report, "Winds of Change: East Asia’s Sustainable Energy Future", says major investments in energy efficiency and a concerted switch to renewable sources of power in China, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam could simultaneously stabilize greenhouse gas emissions and increase energy security while improving local environments.

The FAO has published a life cycle assessment of the global dairy sector. The assessment is part of an ongoing research programme to assess the environmental implications of animal food chains, and to analyse and recommend improvement options. The immediate next step for the FAO is to use a similar approach to quantify the GHG emissions associated with specialised beef cattle and other major livestock species including buffalo, poultry, small ruminants and pigs.
