Job: Professor of Sustainable Food Systems, University of Surrey, Guildford, UK

Date
University of Surrey

Advertiser's description

The University of Surrey is seeking to appoint an outstanding research leader to the new role of Professor of Sustainable Food Systems. The appointment is being made as part of the University’s creation of a cross-institution, multi-disciplinary Institute for Sustainability.

With food being a major theme of the Institute’s work – and with Surrey being recognised internationally for excellence across the spectrum of food research, including the award of a Queen’s Anniversary Prize in 2017/18 – the appointee will adopt a holistic, systems approach in leading the strategic development of food sustainability research at the University, spanning the natural, physical, and social sciences.

Academic credibility, excellent interpersonal and representative skills, and success in leading complex multidisciplinary research programmes, alongside the ability to direct successful research proposals and secure substantial funding from public and private sources, are key requirements of the role.

Applicants from across the natural, physical, and social sciences are welcomed: the successful candidate will be a member of the University’s renowned Centre for Environment & Sustainability, which will be integral to the new Institute, and of another academic School or Department at Surrey that best fits their disciplinary background.

This is an opportunity to break new ground in sustainable food systems research through adopting an innovative, translational approach to solving real-world problems, at a university with an outstanding campus, excellent transport links and a vibrant regional economy offering rich opportunities for partnership with commercial, public, and third sector organisations, alongside a high quality of life.
