WWF-UK has published a call for proposals for a study to estimate the costs to companies of conducting due diligence on forest- and ecosystem-risk commodities in their supply chains. The work will compare the costs for a system that addresses illegal deforestation/conversion only versus one that addresses all deforestation/conversion – legal or illegal.
WWF-UK’s assumption is that it is easier and less costly for companies to do the latter, because assessing the legality of deforestation/conversion can be very complex, but they would like to substantiate this with robust evidence to support their advocacy.
The call for proposals is available on the government’s Contracts Finder service here. Proposals are welcome until 23 July 2021.
